So this post is about craziness. And lots and lots of calories.
December has been such a busy month at work with holiday parties, happy hours, and just tons and tons of baking. But that's what I get paid to do-- and it's fun. Most of the time ;)
Last week was Zynga's big holiday party for which we had to make crazy amounts of fudge-- not even joking if I estimated a good 100 lbs of pure fudge. And we went through most of it at the party! That was part one of the December baking madness.
Part two is pictured above. Literally the show stopper and most intense cake I have ever made. It was inspired by the famous pie cake featured on the Food Network, and when I was asked to make it I thought it was a joke. There's no joking in this kitchen! We made that same pie cake-- just about ten times bigger.

This post features the process of making this cake...no recipes though! Basically, it's a cake made from three cakes that contain pies baked into them. Apple pie baked into a vanilla cake, pecan pie baked into chocolate cake, and pumpkin pie baked into a spice cake. The pies are baked individually beforehand, and then layered into the appropriate cake batter which is then placed back into the oven to bake. Make any sense? That's why this cake is so intense.
The layers of pie cake are stacked on top of each other with vanilla frosting spread between them-- first the apple vanilla, then the pumpkin spice, and finally the pecan chocolate. The entire cake is covered in more frosting. This cake was a workout to make in itself-- both mine and Erica's backs and shoulders hurt from bending over trying to make it look perfect and smooth.

The expressions on our faces perfectly reflect our feelings about this cake. Me-- utter shock that we actually did it. Erica-- death.
The finishing touches on the cake consist of a walnut and pecan border and a caramel drizzle. Finally done!
My best friend, Sarah, is the nutrition admin for our culinary group, and she calculated that the total worth of this cake in calories is 230,000.... !!! Even if we were to get 300 servings out of this monster, that's over 700 calories a piece! I hope people share ;)
And now for the big reveal.....

Care for a slice? :)
Just slicing the cake was another workout.
